Karate Martial Arts and Self Defense Classes in Long Beach (ages 13 and up)
Shorin Ryu Karate is a traditional form of self defense that combines blocks, punches, strikes, and kicks into an Okinawan fighting style.
Shorin Ryu is so effective, it was used by warriors who served as bodyguards to the kings of Okinawa. Shorin Ryu Karate is a traditional martial art
developed as a weaponless method of self defense. Karate students defend themselves against various attacks using basic principles such as blocks,
parries, punches, open hand strikes, elbows, takedowns, and kicking techniques. Through the process of learning self defense techniques, our students
develop strength and increase endurance. Our style of Shorin Ryu Karate is one of the major modern Okinawan martial arts. Developed by Sokon "Bushi" Matsumura
during the 1800s, Matsumura Orthodox, also known as Matsumura Seito Ha or Sukunai Hayashi, is a traditional style of Okinawan Karate. Shorin-ryu combines elements
of the traditional Okinawan fighting styles Shuri-te and Tomari-te, two major regions in Okinawa.
